le tour de west side highway

Just like any long weekend, New Yorker had abandoned the city.
Not like any long weekend, I had no visitor, nor a plan to travel...

Anyway, the little bike was finally fixed last week but nobody was interested on riding.
I thought, why not going out for a ride on the West Side.
It'd be nice and quiet.
A friend decided to tag along, and here it went~

are you ready?

We met up at Franklin, unusually early.
Stopped by the bicycle rental and started riding at 11am.

Destination: Battery Park.
My friend had never seen the Water Taxi.
It was painted the same way as the ordinary NYC Taxi, but this one was in the form of a boat, picked up and dropped off only at certain spots.

As we entered Battery Park City, amazing views and parks awaited us.
There was a little harbor by the Financial Center with white yachts and little sail boats and a park with above-water wooden terrace -- a great place to come and read.
This area didn't feel like New York.
It was green and quiet, almost surreal.
The statue of Liberty stood across the river, peacefully hold her place.

a little escape from the city

We made a turn before the ferry.
It was crowded by tourist.

Destination: Chelsea Piers.
There we went again, cruisin' the west side.
It was nice and breezy out.
We stopped by the Trapeze School to watch them swing.
They were amazing!
Hmm.. a sailing school or a trapeze one? A difficult choice..

Chelsea Piers was a few blocks away.
My friend and I were wondering where the bike trail ended.
We passed the Intrepid and got carried on.. all the way to 82nd and Amsterdam!

It was 1:30pm when we arrived uptown.
Had no lunch yet.
Parked at the store and walked to Fairway.
It felt funny to walk.

Picked up a baked lemon garlic chicken -- Fairway's best and a potato salad.
Took our bikes and had a little picnic in the park near by.

lunch break

Made our way back to Franklin after lunch.
I took some last shots on the trail.
At this time fellow runners, skaters, and bikers were all out.
Concluded our ride at 3pm.

the green giant

It was fantastic to cruise around the city.
It was my first time and I was hooked!

Had dinner and a hot bath.
I could only hope I wouldn't be sore tomorrow...

ach, missing my delf-rotterdam cycling to office session on summer 2003. Sometimes i wonder if only Indonesia has more space for non-motor vehicles like this.
