l'art brut

i am a sucker for art...

I looooooooooooove going to exhibitions and fairs.
Today was the last day of Outsider Art Fair.
32 nationwide galleries showed off their best pieces who were visionary, intuitive, self-taught, outsider, and art brut. Yes, the pieces were for sale, but I couldn't digest the tag.

It was exactly 6pm when I arrived.
Do you know that we are closing in an hour?
Yes, does it mean I get in for free?
Unfortunately, not.
The nice man at the door told me to start from Gallery 3 -- the inner part of the exhibit, so I could browse most of them before they closed.

All the way on the back wall was Benjamin Jones at Barbara Archer's.
I was immediately in love with his whimsical grotesque creatures.

Back to back with Benjamin Jones were pieces from Leon d'Francelay who was a security guard at the Met.

At the front end of Gallery 3, there were embroideries by David Bromley an Australian artist. His works depicted "the daily experiences of childhood in the nostalgic, colorful, pop-style of 50s - 60s moral tales in 'boys own' comics; close ups on faces, snapshots of action, adventures at sea."

Briskly passed Gallery 2 and 1.
Shot pieces here and there.
I didn't pay attention to the artist anymore.
I was running out of time.

from gallery 2 & 1

The last 15 minutes I spent examining Henry Darger at American Folk Art Museum booth.

He was sent to asylum as a child, then he escaped, and worked as a janitor in a Catholic hospital in Chicago.
I'm going to catch a movie about him tomorrow.
