New York City Ballet Costume Atelier est le rêve de costume dessinateurs!
Went to a field trip today at the New York City Ballet Costume Shop.
Russian ladies were hustling and stitching around.
The Director, Holly Hynes gave some insights and led us through the shop.
We used plenty of glittery, shiny, fabrics, but not a slippery ones..
For a solo, sure. But not the one with a partner, it would slipped when the ballerina make a jump, etc..
It had never crossed my mind!
The process of creating costumes were very involving and required deep thoughts.
We crossed the cold and windy plaza to the warehouse where they stored all the costumes ever made.
Fantastic!
Tons and tons of tutus hanging on rows of double racks.
Each one was handmade, down to the little flowers!
One little tutu could cost up to $6,500.
My favorite costume was from the Vienna Waltzes.
Eight simple off-white satin dresses each with unique flower detailing on the corset. Oh!
It was an overwhelming experience!
Dropped by NYPL after class to pick up pictures and books for the costume project.
I left the house at 9:30am to work and stepped out when they turned the library lights off at 9pm!
What a life!
Called up Mami since she worked a block away from the library.
Met Mami for dinner at Ruby Foo's afterwards.
I hadn't seen her since December.
She'd been busy, travelling to Paris and Tokyo.
Brought me a little お土産 from each city.
An Hervé Chapelier bag from Paris and 鳩サブレー from Tokyo.
It was sweet of her.
まみちゃん、ありがとうね~
Got home exhausted...
Definitely need some sleep...
Another long day is ahead... zz... zzz... zzzzzzzz.....
